AB Fruits is a family owned and run business

Established in Bedfordshire for over 40 years. We pride ourselves on sourcing the finest, freshest produce, combined with an unrivalled level of service.

We buy from our suppliers on a daily basis and offer a diverse range of local, domestic, and continental produce, all of which is always fresh and in optimal condition. Working with local farmers and sourcing from London’s markets means we can offer you a year-round supply of produce that is fresh and in season.

Whilst fruits and vegetables are at the heart of what we do, our passion for food has led us to diversify and seek out an even greater range of products. We now stock everything from essentials such a milk, eggs, and bread to frozen foods and dry goods too.

Thanks to our family roots, we have a wealth of knowledge in Italian food and are pleased to stock a wide range of continental products.

Our History

AB Fruits takes pride in its heritage and independence

Founded in 1982, AB Fruits began with humble beginnings. Founder Antonio Bosco started the business from the back of an old laundry van, travelling to the market each day and returning home to supply fresh produce to local restaurants, shops and private customers. From these modest origins, Antonio’s dedication and hands-on approach quickly earned the business a loyal following, and as demand grew, AB Fruits expanded into its first warehouse on Roff Avenue in Bedford.

The move to a larger premises allowed Antonio to hold a greater variety of stock and provide a more reliable service to customers. At that time, doorstep delivery of fruit and vegetables was still a novel idea, and AB Fruits was at the forefront of bringing fresh produce directly to homes and businesses in the local area. Over the years, the business has continued to evolve: the original van has grown into a modern fleet of fully refrigerated vehicles, ensuring produce reaches customers in peak condition, and the once generous warehouse eventually became too small for the company’s expanding operations. In 2009, AB Fruits relocated to its current, purpose-built premises at Manton Heights, Bedford - remaining close to its roots while embracing a new chapter of growth and innovation.

AB Fruits takes great pride in its independence and family values, growing organically from strength to strength. Throughout the years, the business has continually developed by expanding its product range and offering greater choice to customers. In 2011, AB Fruits achieved BRC accreditation, a significant milestone that reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to the highest standards of quality, safety and service. Today, the business is led by Antonio’s son, who continues the family legacy and upholds the same values of care, integrity and dedication to customers.

We engage the services of a food safety consultant to support the monitoring and management of our food safety systems, ensuring we remain proactive in preventing any potential food safety issues.

We are approved BRC-accredited suppliers, which demonstrates our commitment to quality and ensures that the products and services our customers receive are of the highest standard.

Safeguarding the Environment

AB Fruits recognises that businesses can have an impact on the environment, and we are committed to providing a high-quality service while minimising our environmental footprint. We strive to comply with all relevant environmental legislation, regulations and requirements, reducing the impact of our storage and distribution operations.

We are strong advocates for minimising environmental impact wherever possible. In our industry, thousands of cardboard boxes are traditionally used to deliver fresh produce. Recently, we have introduced returnable and reusable cardboard boxes, significantly reducing waste and easing the burden on our customers’ collections – providing a more sustainable service for all.

When cardboard boxes are still used, our pickers and packers ensure they are fully utilised and that any waste is carefully recycled. This approach reflects our ongoing commitment to responsible practices and environmental stewardship.
